Alexis VanZalen

Harpsichord

A native of Holland, MI, Alexis has recently returned to West Michigan after earning her PhD in musicology from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (NY). In her dissertation, she demonstrates how Catholic Counter-Reformation theology shaped the style of seventeenth-century French organ music. Alexis’s early keyboard teachers from Holland include Jane Cronkite, Roberta Kraft, and Huw Lewis, and she earned a BA in history and a BM in organ performance at Lawrence University, where she studied with Kathrine Handford. She also holds an MM in Early Music-Harpsichord from Eastman, where she studied with Edoardo Bellotti, Anne Laver, Paul O’Dette, and Christel Theilmann. Alexis currently works as a Program Coordinator at the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship.
